When the cold weather sets in, there's nothing better than pulling on a soft, warm beanie that you made yourself.

This easy slouchy crochet beanie pattern is the perfect project to cozy up with during the winter months. It's soft, simple to make, and has just enough slouch to give it that relaxed, laid-back look that everyone loves.

This hat is worked up in worsted weight yarn, similar in weight to Red Heart Super Saver, so it's warm and sturdy but still soft enough for everyday wear.

Using four colors gives the hat a lovely striped or color-blocked effect, and you can mix and match shades to fit your own style - go bold, go neutral, or even use up leftover yarn from your stash.

The modified crunch crochet stitch used in this pattern adds a touch of texture that really makes the hat stand out.

It's easy to learn and quick to repeat, which means you can make this cozy slouchy beanie in just one evening or afternoon. The wide fold-over brim is both practical and stylish - it keeps your ears extra warm while giving the hat that classic winter look.

This adult-size slouchy beanie is designed for comfort, with a slightly loose fit that drapes nicely at the back.

It's the perfect pattern if you want something that looks modern but feels timeless. Plus, it makes a wonderful handmade gift for friends, family, or anyone who loves a cozy winter accessory.

    • Beginner Friendly - The modified stitch pattern is easy to learn and works up fast.
    • Great Gift Idea - Quick to make, beautiful to wear, and perfect for gift-giving!

    About the Design

This slouchy crochet beanie is worked from the bottom up, starting with a wide fold-over brim made from single crochet stitches that create stretch and structure.

The brim is thick and cozy, perfect for keeping your ears warm on those chilly winter days. Once the brim is complete, you'll move on to the main body of the hat.

The body uses a modified crunch crochet stitch, which gives the fabric a subtle bumpy texture. It's not as open as lace but not as dense as half double crochet, so the hat feels warm yet breathable.

The stitch pattern is simple enough for beginners but looks polished and professional when finished.

To give this design a bit of extra flair, the pattern uses four colors. You can make wide color blocks, alternating stripes, or even fade-style transitions depending on how you arrange your yarns.

It's a great way to add personality and use up small amounts of yarn from your stash.

When the main body is complete, you'll shape the crown with a few rounds of decreases. The hat is then cinched at the top to create a soft slouch. You can leave it plain or top it off with a pom-pom for extra fun!

    Yarn and Color Ideas

This pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, similar to Red Heart Super Saver, which is easy to find and comes in many colors. It holds shape beautifully, gives great stitch definition, and keeps your head warm even on frosty days.

Here are some color ideas to inspire you:

    • Classic Winter - Cream, gray, charcoal, and black - a timeless neutral combo that goes with everything.
    • Festive Combo - Red, white, green, and gold - perfect for a cheerful Christmas beanie that pops with holiday spirit.
    • Cool Tones - Light blue, navy, white, and soft gray - like a snowy winter sky, fresh and cozy for cold days.
    • Autumn Vibes - Mustard, rust, brown, and olive - rich, earthy colors that capture the warmth of fall leaves.
    • Soft Pastels - Blush pink, ivory, lavender, and pale mint - a gentle, feminine palette that feels light and pretty.

If you prefer a minimalist style, you can always make the hat in a single color - it looks just as lovely!

    Tips for Success

    • Keep your tension even. Consistent stitches help the texture of the modified stitch shine.
    • Use a stitch marker. It's easy to lose track when changing colors or rounds.
    • Join neatly. A clean join keeps your color changes smooth and seamless.
    • Weave in ends carefully. Especially when using three colors-take your time for a tidy finish.

    How to Adjust the Fit

One of the great things about this pattern is how easy it is to adjust. If you want a tighter fit, reduce the number of rows you make for the brim.

For a longer slouchier hat, simply add a few more row before decreasing the top.

Because this is an adult-size beanie, the standard circumference fits most heads comfortably, but these little tweaks let you tailor it perfectly to your liking.

    Finishing Touches

Once you've finished your last round and cinched the top closed, you can leave the hat as is for a classic slouchy look like this slouchy beanie. Or, for a bit of extra personality, add a pom-pom!

A faux fur pom-pom gives it a polished store-bought look, while a yarn pom-pom adds a playful handmade touch. You can even make the pom-pom in one of your accent colors to tie the design together.

Another fun addition is a small leather or wooden tag - it's a great way to label your handmade creations and makes your beanie look extra special if you're giving it as a gift.
